Five isolates of bacterial leaf blight collected from different localities were studied with respect to biochemical studies viz, starch hydrolysis, gelatin liquefaction, protein digestion, production of ammonia, production of indole, production of hydrogen sulfide, the Voges proskaure test, nitrate reduction, methyl red test, production of fluorescent pigment on King's B medium. The isolates were morphologically similar but showed more variation in their biochemical properties and also with respect to utilization of carbon sources.
