Genetic characterization of Cowpea rust pathogen (Uromyces Vignae) using molecular markers

Abstract

Populations of 32 isolates of Uromyces vignae collected from South India and their genetic characterization was done by using random amplified polymorphic DNA-Polymerase chain reaction(RAPD-PCR). The isolates exhibited the overall polymorphism of about 10.7%. The similarity degree value for the isolates varied from 0.56 to 0.98. Cluster analysis of molecular profiles showed 11 groups. The results showed variation in pathogen population.
