Abstract

The fungitoxic effect of Zimmu and Garlic creeper was evaluated against Colletotrichum musae (Berk. & M. A. Curtis) Arx causing banana anthracnose. Leaf extracts were obtained by using cold and hot water and five solvents viz., acetone, chloroform, hexane, methanol and petroleum ether at different concentrations and were screened against test pathogen by following agar well diffusion method. Cold water extract showed maximum inhibition compared to hot water extract in both cases. However, with respect solvents, methanol extract showed the maximum inhibition. On comparison, Zimmu was better in inhibiting mycelial growth of the pathogen.
