Religious or Ideological Terrorism: Reconstructing the Unconcealed Synergy

International system in the contemporary times may be defined in the context of certain socially constructed realities and thereby to understand the system one must focus on shared rules, norms, practices, meanings and identities. Just as the notion of sovereignty did not always exist, similarly the use of religion as a reaction to as well as an explanation for the new form of terrorism, often referred to as global jihad, did not always motivate and convince individual terrorists to take their own lives and kill others as it does today/“New Terrorism” seems to be driven by the ‘power of ideas’, using religion to justify terror attacks and convince the individual terrorists to take their own lives. The present study seeks to understand how terrorism is socially constructed and what role religion plays in making some individuals rely heavily on a theocratic, monolithic version of their medieval belief system contradicting the democratic and liberal notions of plurality of thoughts.
