Abstract

A rootstock trial of Jaffa cultivar of sweet orange using eight rootstocks; viz. Jatti Khatti, Karna Khatta, Troyercitrange, Carrizo citranges, Pectinifera, Pineapple, Rangpur Lime and Citrumelo; was laid out in 1969. Results obtained till February, 1997 revealed that Jaffa trees budded on Jatti Khatti showed maximum survival (83.5%) with healthy trees; whereas no tree was lound healthy on Kama Khatta and Troyer rootstocks. All the trees on Citrumelo, Carrizo and Rangpur Lime died upto 1991. Jatti Khatti rootstock produced significantly more stock and scion girth, and tree volume than Kama Khatta and Pectinifera. Jatti Khatti also produced significantly better fruit yield and weight/fruit than other rootstocks. Peel of the fruits was significantly less on Jatti Khatti and Pineapple than on Kama Khatta rootstock. However, fruits on Pectinifera rootstock had significantly more TSS content than other rootstocks.
