Field experiments were conducted at the experimental area of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana during 1992–93 and 1993–94, to see the performance of sulfonyl urea herbicides applied along or in combination with isoproturon. The soil under these experiments was loamy sand in texture. As evidenced from data, application of metsulfuron or tribenzuron methyl each at 10 g/ha provided excellent control of hardy broad leaf weeds and increased grain yield of wheat (average of two years) by 18.3 and 20.4 percent over hand hoeing and 39.6 and 42.0 per cent over control (untreated) treatments respectively. Chlorimuron ethyl proved phyto-toxic to wheat crop as it reduced affective tillers and plant height significantly over other sulfonyl urea herbicides and 2,4-D (recommended) treatment.
