Performance of Pineapple Cultivar of Sweet Orange (Citrus Sinensis Osbeck) on Different Rootstocks

A trial using four rootstocks viz., Jatti Khatti, Kama Khatta, Troyer and Carrizo was planted at Abohar during 1969 for Pineapple - a mid-season cultivar of sweet orange. Results revealed that upto the age of 22 years (1969–1991) the trees on Jatti Khatti excelled all other rootstocks for survival, their health and volume. However, these were on par with Kama Khatta. Troyer and Carrizo in respect of yield. After 1991, these trees declined severely, and by the year 1997 only 41 percent survived out of which only 17 per cent were healthy with least tree volume and fruit yield. The mean fruit yield (1974–1996) on various rootstocks varied from 244 in Carrizo to 271 on Kama Khatta. In the year 1997, maximum tree survival of 92 per cent with 67 per cent healthy trees was noted on Carrizo rootstocks, but tree volume was only 21.0 m³; whereas those on Kama Khatta had 67 per cent survival with 54 per cent healthy trees having mean tree volume (36.0m³) with maximum yield (244 fruits/tree).
