Abstract

The reversal effects of single intravenous administration of 2-pyridine aldoxime (2-PAM) and diacetylmonoxime (DAM) was determined on the blood enzymes in dichlorvos exposed cross-bred cow calves. Dichlorvos given orally at the dose rate of 30 mg/kg body weight produced pronounced inhibition of erythrocyte and plasma acetylcholinesterase (AchE) and elevation in plasma levels of aminotransferases, and phosphatases, within 30 min. The administration of DAM and 2-PAM to dichlorvos exposed calves significantly reactivated the erythrocyte and plasma AchE activity. The administration of AchE reactivators also decreased the elevated levels of plasma aminotransferase and phosphatase enzymes within 6-12h. The reversal effect of DAM on erythrocyte acetylcholinesterase and plasma level of transferases and and phosphatases was comparatively greater than that of PAM. The results indicated that treatment of DAM was more effective in reversing the dichlorvos induced blood enzymatic alterations.
