An investigation was conducted to find out the effect of post-harvest duration on the stability of different sugarcane genotypes viz. CoJ 88, S12/91, COJ 87, CoJ 84 and CoJ 82 under three storage conditions i.e. natural field conditions exposed to sun without spray of water(sun); natural field conditions exposed to sun with spray of water once daily (sun+water); kept under the shed having roof made of tin with two sides open, without spray of water and not exposed to sun (shed) for 7days from end of April to the beginning of May at PAU Sugarcane Research Station, Jalandhar. The overall ranking on the basis of ‘b’ values (regression coefficients) for cane weight loss %, loss in extraction %, pol loss in juice (%cane), increase in formation of reducing sugars in juice (%cane) and loss in purity of juice as dependent factors with post harvest duration (1–7 days) as independent variable revealed that genotype CoJ 88 was highly stable followed by CoJ 84; CoJ 82 and CoJ 87 & S12/91 under sun; genotype CoJ 88 was highly stable followed by CoJ 82; CoJ 84; CoJ 87 and S 12/91 under sun+water and genotype CoJ 82 was highly stable followed by CoJ 88; CoJ 84; S 12/91 and CoJ 87 under shed. Post harvest deterioration was lower in sun+water as compared to sun. While cane weight loss % and loss in extraction % was least under shed as compared to sun and sun+water storage conditions but loss in rest of the biochemical parameters were higher under shed.
