These studies were conducted at the Vegetable Experimental Farm, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana during 1997–98 and 1998–99 on NDC-1 and N- 9105 (November maturity), 164415 (October maturity) and Early Kumari (September maturity) varieties of Indian cauliflower. Early Kumari and NDC-1 were strongly self- incompatible but in NDC-1 self- incompatibility was not stable. N- 9105 and 164415 were weak in self- incompatibility reaction. Plants P-10 of NDC-1, P-3 of N-9105 and P-3, P-4 and P-5 of Early Kumari were highly self-incompatible and they were stable also. However, there was breakdown of self- incompatibility in other varieties. Bud pollination proved to be good for the maintenance of these varieties.
