Effect of Girdle Width, Time of Girdling and Gibberellic Acid Treatments on Fruit Quality and Health of Perlette Grapevine

The effect of width as well as time of girdling and gibberellic acid treatments on fruit quality and health of Perlette grapevines was studied during 2001, at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. The treatment of flower bud thinning followed by two dips of 40 mgl⁻¹ GA₃, one and two weeks after full bloom and 2 mm wide stem girdling at veraison gave the highest berry weight (3.2 g), total soluble solids (19.4%) and the lowest juice acidity (0.60%). The effects of single as well as double dips in 40 ppm GA₃ were, however, statistically at par with each other. Yellowing of leaves was highest (60%) in the treatments where girdling was done at 4 mm berry size stage whereas it was negligible (5%) when girdling was done at veraison stage with single dip in GA₃.
