Abstract

Genetic variability in thirty nine advanced generation lines, derived from intervarietal crosses of pea (Pisum sativum L.) was studied at the Vegetable Experimental Farm, Department of Vegetable Crops, PAU, Ludhiana, during 1997–98. Highly significant differences were observed among the genotypes for all the characters. Estimates of phenotypic and genotypic coefficient of variations were high for plant height, number of pods per plant, node bearing first pod, number of branches per plant and reaction to powdery mildew. High heritability estimates with high genetic advance were obtained for plant height, number of pods per plant and node bearing first pod. Green pod yield, pod length and number of seeds per pod exhibited high heritability with low genetic advance which indicated inadequate variability in the material.
