Phenolic profile and peroxidase activity in relation to yellow vein mosaic virus reaction in okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L. Moench)

Abstract

Six generations of Okra crop viz. P1, P2, F1, F2, BC1 and BC2 were studied in three inter-varietal crosses (Arka Anamika X Varsha Uphar, Arka Anamika X Pusa Sawani and Varsha Uphar X Pusa Sawani) for phenolic profile and peroxidase activity in leaves. The generations which were highly resistant in their reaction to Yellow Vein Mosaic Virus had higher content of phenols, ortho-dihydroxyphenols and flavonols. These generations also showed high peroxidase activity.
