The present investigation was undertaken to study the pathological observations of reproductive tract disorders of laying hens viz. Oophoritis, salpingitis, salpingo-peritonitis, neoplastic conditions and miscellaneous conditions like egg bound, impaction of oviduct, atrophied ovary and oviduct, persistent right cystic oviduct and ovarian cyst. Grossly, in acute oophoritis the ovary exhibited marked congestion and hemorrhages, ova were mis-shapened, while in chronic oophoritis, the ovary had thick walled follicles. Microscopic observation revealed fibrinous and serofibrinous exudation with infiltration of the heterophils in acute form, whereas mineralization and atrophy of the ovarian follicles, fibrous tissue proliferation along with lymphocytic infiltration in chronic form. Grossly, in acute salpingitis, congestion and haemorrhages were seen, whereas in chronic cases, the oviduct appeared small and indurated in places. Microscopic observations revealed heterophil infiltration in acute form, and fibrous tissue proliferation, infiltration of mononuclear cells and degeneration and atrophy of glands in the magnum in the chronic form. The important gross and microscopic changes of various disease entities are discussed.
