The mean impact of furrow-earthing on the pod yield was higher than the flat and the furrow depicting an increase of 34.9 and 30.6 per cent, respectively. The effects are attributed to an early plant emergence, a higher level of moisture that prevailed in 0-30cm soil layer, higher partitioning of dry matter to pods, more number and weight of pods per plant, higher plant stand and rooting density, lower bulk density and reduced soil strength compared to flat and furrow configurations. Unweeded control accumulated significantly higher weed dry matter and gave lowest pod yield (16.4 q ha−1) than the other weed management systems. Pendimethalin @ 0.75 kg ha−1 pre-emergence + hoeing at 45 das (20.4 q ha−1), and two hoeings at 30 and 45 das (19.7 q ha−1) significantly outyielded during the two crop seasons. Interaction effects on the pod yield due to land configurations with weed management systems was significant during, 2001. Furrow-earthing with any of the weed management systems recorded an enhanced pod yield and provided a season long weed control.
