The results of a long-term field experiment at Punjab Agricultural University Farm Ludhiana with maize-wheat cropping system using differential fertilization and farmyard manure initiated in 1971 showed that the crop yields of both maize and wheat increased significantly with NPK and it was the highest where farmyard manure was applied along with inorganic fertilizers. There was a considerable build up of available P with P application. Soil organic carbon improved with maize-wheat cropping system using inorganic fertilizers which further improved where farmyard manure was applied along with NPK.
