Thirty non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus(NIDDM) obese females of 40–60 years were selected from Punjab Agricultural University Hospital, Ludhiana to study the effect of wheat bran supplementation on blood glucose and lipid profile, All the subjects were advised to supplement their wheat flour used for making chapatis with 25% wheat bran. After a period of three months, the fiber intake increased and energy and fat intake decreased which resulted in loss of body weight by 4 per cent and BMI by 6 per cent. The fasting blood glucose level reduced significantly from 162.77 to 151.97 mg/dl whereas post prandial blood glucose came down from 258.1 to 236.90 mg/dl. The triglyceride (TG) level and VLDL-C in the diabetic females reduced significantly from 191.30 to 186.93 mg/dl and 45.53 to 43.97 mg/dl, respectively.
