Incidence of reproductive disorders in dairy animals in different agroclimatic regions of Punjab

Abstract

Incidence of reproductive disorders was studied in six agroclimatic regions of Punjab in cows and buffaloes. One representative Civil Veterinary Hospital was selected from each agroclimatic regions. Five year records (1998–2002) were analyzed. Overall incidence of reproductive disorders in buffaloes was 19.11 per cent which was maximum (24.14%) in submountain undulating region (Kandi region). Major reproductive disorders in buffaloes was anestrus having incidence of 31.98 percent followed by repeat breeding (14.67%), retention of fetal membranes (14.64%), uterine infections (14.28%). Overall incidence of reproductive disorders in cows was 15.05 per cent which was maximum (18.61%) in submountain undulating region. Major reproductive disorder in cows was repeat breeding having incidence of 35.06 per cent followed by uterine infections (21.39%), anestrus (17.28%) and retention of fetal membranes (9.97%).
