Pure cotton fabric was pretreated with cellulase enzyme (Neutrox BDN 100 Powder) and the enzymatic conditions were optimized on the basis of effect of pre-treatment on physical properties. These included pH media 7, enzyme concentration 5% (o.w.f) and the treatment time of 75 minutes. After optimizing the dyeing and mordanting conditions, the control and the pretreated samples were dyed with natural dyes and natural mordants. The effect of enzymatic pre-treatment in dyeing cotton with natural dyes was studied by comparing the CIE LAB values and the colour fastness properties. It was observed that the enzymatically pre-treated samples had more dye absorption and colour fastness properties than the control.
