Abstract

Seven pear cultivars viz., Baggugosha, LeConte, Patharnakh, Punjab Beauty, Punjab Gold, Punjab Nectar and Smith having relatively low chilling requirement were evaluated in the arid - irrigated region of Punjab at Regional Station, Abohar during the years 2002–2004. The maximum fruit weight (221.0 g/fruit), and yield (122.50 kg/tree) was recorded in cv. Patharnakh, the maximum fruit size (8.20 x 7.20 cm) was in Punjab Nectar, whereas the minimum fruit weight (108.20 g/fruit) and yield (51.50 kg/tree) were recorded in LeConte. The TSS: acid ratio ranged between 25.49 (Patharnakh) to 38.48 (Punjab Beauty), and the reducing sugar content was found to be maximum in cv. Punjab Beauty and Punjab Gold.
