Abstract

Water harvesting is the activity of direct collection of rainwater. The collected water can be used for potable purposes with treatment and for non-potable purposes without any treatment. The present study has been done for the feasibility of rainwater harvesting for different domestic uses. The objective of the present study is to determine a suitable size of the water tank for domestic rainwater harvesting (DRWH) system. The potential of rainwater harvesting and capacity of storage structure was determined based upon 37 years (1970–2006) of rainfall data of Ludhiana. Four methods have been used to determine the storage requirement. Method based on probability approach seems to be most appropriate to find tank size as it is based on probability analysis of rainfall data.
