Abstract

The study was undertaken to record anthropometric data for formulating guidelines for designing classroom furniture of girls’ colleges. The sample consisted of 320 female classroom furniture users from each of the 20 classrooms randomly selected from 10 girls’ colleges of Ludhiana city. Data were collected using a record sheet for taking relevant structural and functional anthropometric data. The data were gathered mainly in sitting position. Before gathering anthropometric data; age, weight and height of the subjects were also noted. The average age of the subjects was 20.43±1.88 years while the average height of the subjects was 155.67±4.20 cm. The average anthropometric measurements of the subjects were-sitting height 65.50±2.84 cm, sitting eye level 56.87±2.99 cm, sitting elbow height 24.47±2.25 cm, popliteal height 45.75±0.80 cm, knee height 45.95±1.62cm and thigh height 16.90±1.25 cm. Percentiles were calculated from these values which were further used to formulate the guidelines for designing classroom furniture suited to the requirements of female under graduate students of Punjab.
