Abstract

Pecan population was raised through seeds collected from different areas of Himachal Pradesh is presently growing under Nauni (Solan) conditions. Among this population, 34 bearing pecan trees (12–14 years old) included in the present study exhibited a considerable extent of variability for vegetative, floral, yield, nut and kernel characters. As many as 11 promising selections (Selection No. 6/3, 6/4, 7/5, 9/7, 12/4, 12/6, 12/7, 14/1, 15/7, 16/6 and 18/6) have been identified and are described here using standard descriptors. This will not only help in characterizing pecan germplasm, but will also facilitate their use in breeding and for commercialization in future.
