Abstract

The nodal segments of Bougainvillea glabra Choisy, an ornamental plant, were cultured on MS (Murashige and Skoog) medium fortified with several concentrations of cytokinins such as 6-benzyladenine (BA), kinetin (KN), thidiazuron (TDz), 2-iP (N6-2-isopentyl adenosine) for shoot proliferation and multiplication. The phytohormones had significant influence on the process of plantlet neoformation and rooting rate. The best results were obtained on MS medium supplemented with BA (2.0 mg/l) followed by MS (1/2) medium supplemented with different concentrations of auxins viz. IBA (indole 3-butyric acid) and NAA (α-naphthalene acetic acid) tested for root induction. Likewise, best rooting response (82.22%) was observed at 0.5 mg/l NAA.
