Osteometric indices are determined by applying formulae based on measurements and provide an insight into morphology. The present study attempts to define anatomy of clavicle using indices and quantify these in North Indians.
Indices were calculated for 400 North Indian clavicles (200 male and 200 female). The morpho-metric features were observed and used to calculate indices.
There exists a definite statistically significant sexual dimorphism (‘p’<0.05) for Robustness index, Index of curvature and Index of Saggital diameter at acromial end values in North Indian population.
The study establishes morphometric criterion for collar bone indices in North Indians and compares observations with other populations giving a special emphasis on influence of sex factor. The indices should be taken into account while performing clinical procedures like intramedullary fixation and plate fixation of fractures.
