Jigsaw Cooperative Learning–An Overview of Learning Together Technique

Cooperative learning is the instructional use of small groups so that students work together to maximise their own and each other's learning. Cooperative learning facilitates academic achievement and createspositive social development among the students. One of the cooperative learning methods is jigsaw technique which was originally developed by Elliot Aronson in 1971. Jigsaw technique is framed around a given topic and the learners are divided into small groups with each group member responsible for learning a part of the overall topic. The topic is structured in such a manner that a member has access to other parts of the topic only through other group members. Various researches have implied positive results for implementing jigsaw cooperative learning technique.
