Background: Hypertension, a silent killer, is treatable with various classes of drugs. β-Blockers are one of the wonderful drugs used to treat hypertension from a long time. With the latest developments in research, newer β-blockers are introduced as treatment options.
Aims and Objectives: This study was conducted to compare and analyse the efficacy of Bisoprolol and Metoprolol in controlling blood pressure (BP) in hypertensive patients.
Materials and Methods: This was a prospective, open-label study, conducted on 150 hypertensive patients selected by computerised randomisation (75 patients were taken in each group) over a period of 12 weeks. For diagnosis of hypertension, the Joint National Committee VII (JNC VII) criteria were used, and comparison was made to study the side-effect profile of the drugs.
Results and Conclusion: We concluded that Bisoprolol was more efficient than Metoprolol in reducing BP in hypertensive patients.
