Abstract

The term ‘trauma’, as generally understood, means a wound inflicted by a force on a living tissue. Galileo Galilei (1564–1642), through his principle of inertia, opened the avenues for explaining the effects of application of a force. Modes of wounding in blunt violence are varied. However, combinations of impact and forceful contact are more often encountered. The gravity of the injury produced by direct trauma may be biologically insignificant, but the ensuing indirect injury may assume biologically significant facet, necessitating complex interpretation towards ‘cause and effect’ relationship.
