Asthma is one of the common diseases encountered by the physician leading to significantmortality and morbidity. The disease needs to be treated to improve the quality of life of the patients and togain autonomy.
To determine the quality of life in asthmatic patients.
The present cross-sectional study was carried out at Out-Patient Department of Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital, Banur, Distt. Patiala, Punjab. All patients enrolled in the study wereadministered Mini Asthma Quality of Life questionnaire. The questionnaire tests four domains: symptoms, activity limitation, emotional function and envoirmental stimuli.
A total of 34 adult patients attended outpatients department (OPD) were enrolled in the study. Themean age at time of presentation was 41.9 ± 10 years. All patients had mild to severe compromised QOL,39.7% patients showed mild impairment of symptom score and emotional functions; 41.9% had moderate degree of activity limitation; and 37.3% patients had severe impairment in envoirmental stimuli score.
All patients suffering from Asthma had compromised quality of life with majority of patients having mild to moderate degree of compromised quality of life.
