Present project was undertaken to guide the postgraduate students (PGSs) as a developmental opportunity in their teaching skills and presentations and to develop confidence, enthusiasm and a sense of professional worth.
To develop structured evaluation tool (SET) for assessment of presentations of PGSs.
The presentations of PGSs were evaluated with the help of structured evaluation checklist by – the exemplar senior faculty of the department; other PGSs (peers); and the presenter also assessed herself/himself (self-evaluation) using the same checklist.
Average increase of 8.9 marks was observed in presentation 2 (72.7 ± 12.1) as compared with presentation 1 (63.8 ± 11.4) (p = 0.000). Total self-evaluation scores ranged from 35 to 55 for the presentation 1 with mean (SD) scores of 43 (6.8).
SET involving the quantitative evaluation as evaluated by senior faculty, peer-evaluation and self-evaluation was useful, relevant and constructive way to their growth as a teacher and can be considered a key to improvement in the teaching career, and it should be an ongoing process.
