Abstract

Research competency of undergraduate medical students can be improved by involving them in student projects that will help them learn the use of computers, biostatistics and research methodology as a whole.

To understand the niche of basic medical research and capacity building by doing a small survey within the campus

Small scale survey among 100 medical undergraduate students for obesity was done. The percentage distribution of obesity and overweight category was compared with the published literature from different parts of the country.

Our study helped the student learn use of computers and software in each part of the research at leisure and in a step-by-step scientific approach.

By conducting this small-scale survey, the niche behind executing a basic research was learnt. Such small scale trainings for students will help them in their career both in the medical education as well as in medical research.
