Truthfulness and trust forms the basis of research. Plagiarism is increasingly getting attention among scientific community. Increase in plagiarism may be due to fraudulent actions or due to lack of knowledge about what is considered as plagiarism.
This study is aimed to determine the knowledge of postgraduate students and faculty regarding plagiarism and to assess their attitude towards plagiarism (ATP).
A cross sectional survey among postgraduate students and faculty at our institution.
It is a cross-sectional study conducted among postgraduate students and faculty. After obtaining ethics approval and consent, 45 participants were included. Demographic data is collected. Questionnaire to assess knowledge and ‘ATP questionnaire’ was used.
A total of 20 participants were postgraduate students and 25 were faculty. Knowledge about what is considered as plagiarism or paraphrasing is limited among participants. Participants showed moderate-positive attitude favouring towards plagiarism, moderate-negative ATP as well as their perception of plagiarism in their environment. Faculty showed low negativity towards plagiarism compared with postgraduates.
Participants were moderate in favouring and disfavouring plagiarism. This may be due to lack of awareness about what is plagiarism and identifying the same. This can improved by conducting more workshops on plagiarism and ways to identifying and avoiding the same.
