Assessment of Impact of Revised Basic Course Workshop (RBCW) in Medical Education Technology on the Trained Teachers at a Tertiary Care Teaching Hospital

RBCW is part of MCI's faculty development programme that aims to improve quality of medical training by training the teachers. This study will help to find out immediate as well as long-term impact of RBCW.

1) To assess impact of RBCW in medical education technology on trained teachers, 2) To know faculty's perception on RBCW.

This study is prospective questionnaire-based study carried out at Parul Institute of Medical Science and Research. Total 44 participants who were trained for RBCW were included in this study. Pre-and post-test questionnaire analysis was done after RBCW to assess immediate impact. Later on feedback from 15 head of departments were taken regarding their trained faculties using pre validated, semi-structured questionnaire. Focus group discussions were also carried out amongst 20 trained faculties.

Significant difference in knowledge (p<0.01) between pre-and post-session of RBCW at 5% level of significance was seen implying that the RBCW improved the knowledge of the participants. All the participants were of opinion that RBCW was of more didactic theoretical lectures with less practical training. Nearly 90% respondents felt need of monitoring body who could do follow up the desired changes after workshop.

Immediate impact of RBCW was good in enhancing knowledge of participants; however, periodic vigilance and frequent refresher training is required to ensure proper implementation of fundamentals of RBCW by trained teachers.
