Digital revolution and constant engaging in social media has an adverse impact on attention span of students. Traditional teaching methods have failed in keeping students attention. Blended learning is becoming more popular, successful and accepted method. Micro learning is a method where in contents are split into important microsessions and informations are shared across different platforms. In this study, effectiveness of “Blended” “Microlearning” sessions on students performance was assessed.
To Measure the short term outcomes and perception of supplementation of Blended Microlearning sessions on students performance in ENT clinical teaching.
Thirty Seven students recruited for the study were divided into prior theory exposure group and non exposure group. Each group was further subdivided Intervention and Non Intervention sub groups. Interventional group recieved Microlearning sessions (22 in number less than 5 min duration) in blended mode via Whats App. Topics of Micro sessions were synchronised with topics of regular clinical teachings. Its impact was assessed by calculating the difference between post and pre test and statistically analysed. Participant's feedback on perception about this intervention was obtained.
A mean improvement of 2.09 was observed in interventional group compared to 1.69 of non interventional group. Mean difference of post test and pretest scores within intervention and non intervention subgroups in Prior theory exposure group was 2.23 and 0.86, and in No theory exposure group was 1.89 and 2.38 respectively.
Supplementation of Blended Microlearning Sessions had statistically insignificant impact on short term outcomes. Prior theoretical knowledge increased the impact of intervention.
