Dynamics of Growth and Yield of Various Mango Selections Grown Under Rainfed Conditions of Jammu

Abstract

An investigation was carried out to evaluate the mango selections on the basis of growth, flowering and yield grown under rainfed conditions of Jammu. The experiment was laid out in a randomized block design with seven mango selections. Tree height was maximum (6.79 m) in Desi-2, while Desi-1 recorded maximum trunk girth of 92.73 cm, tree volume (434.82 m2) and tree spread of 7.76 m in east-west and 8.19 m in north-south directions. Selection-1 was the first to come into full bloom, whereas Desi-1 and Desi-2 were the last. Selection-4 recorded the maximum panicles per plant (316.67) followed by Selection-1 (288.67), while minimum number of panicles was recorded in Selection-3 (59.67). The number of flowers per panicle was maximum in Desi 1 (3409.17). The highest fruit set percentage was registered in Desi-1 (15.10%), whereas it was lowest in Selection-4 (12.80%). The highest fruit drop was observed in Selection-4 (87.20%) followed by Selection-3 (86.60%), while it was minimum in Desi-1 (84.90%). In most of the genotypes, the date of harvesting ranges from 2nd to 4th week of June. The maximum yield of 16.67 kg per tree was recorded in Selection-5.
