Abstract

Stability of cytoplasmic genetic male sterile lines is of importance for the successful exploitation of hybrid rice technology in rice. Both basmati and non-basmati cytoplasmic male sterile (CMS) lines showed significant differences among themselves for most of characters under study. Thirty-three non-basmati and three basmati cytoplasmic lines were used for study the stability of sterility. Of all CMS lines, IR 72080A, IR 70372A, IR 70959A, IR 69624A, IR 69627A, IR 72078A, IR 75603A and IR 75596A among non-basmati and three basmati CMS lines Pusa 3A, Pusa 5A and Pusa 6A were found to be promising and stable for sterility.
