In nature, the soils show a certain naturally acquired stratification. In these situations, in contrast to the homogeneous isotropic soils, the hydraulic conductivity is not same in all the directions but depends on the direction of flow. The stratification may result from the shape of the particles. In sedimentary soils, their alternating layers of different texture are found, which give rise to the condition where the hydraulic conductivity with direction. Secondly, the plant roots may influence the hydraulic conductivity of the topsoil. Root holes tend to increase the vertical hydraulic conductivity. Keeping this behaviour of soil in view, solution for water table fluctuations in soils having spatial variations in horizontal as well as vertical directions are proposed. The proposed solutions have been verified theoretically for some particular cases of soil hydraulic conductivity.
