Abstract

Ten genotypes of tomato comprising seven F1 hybrids and 3 open pollinated varieties were planted during kharif 2005 at Research Farm of SKUAST-J, Main Campus Chatha and observation recorded for yield and yield attributing traits. Hybrid variety Prithvi ranked first with respect to yield (403 q/ha). In terms of average fruit weight and fruit yield per plot, Lehar, US-620 (hybrids) and Punjab Chhuhara (open pollinated) were better performers. Considerable genetic variability with high heritability was available for days to 1st picking, fruiting duration and fruit yield per plot. Significant and positive correlation of yield with plant height, number of branches per plant and fruiting duration indicated that selection strategies must be focus on plant canopy, modification, fruiting duration and individual fruit weight to achieve higher level of fruit yield.
