An experiment was carried out to study the growth pattern and yield of wheat (Triticum aestivum) under zero and conventional tillage, fertility levels and N-splits in fine rice (Oryza sativa) based cropping system during 2003–05 at Chatha, Jammu. Tillage methods did not produce any significant difference in the plant height, dry matter accumulation, leaf area index and growth and yield of wheat. 125 per cent of recommended fertilizer doses though remained at par with 100 per cent of recommended fertilizer doses, recorded significantly higher growth and yield of wheat than 75 per cent of recommended fertilizer dose. However, under zero tillage method, 125 per cent of recommended fertilizer dose realized significant influence on growth and yield of wheat than conventional tillage. Splitting of N at basal, CRI and EI stages increased the growth of wheat with a concomitant increase in yield than splitting of N in two doses.
