Potential of silvi-pastoral systems in improving the forage production in the hills of Jammu and Kashmir

Livestock production is the principal activity of farming community in the hills of J&K. To support the huge livestock population with large forage requirement, adoptions of silvipastoral systems in the hilly regions of the state seem to be the most viable option besides meeting the diverse needs and socio-economic requirements of the farmers. The silvi-pastoral systems designed with combination of suitable native and exotic grasses/legumes with fodder trees would ensure round the year supply of quality fodder and would also help to ameliorate the micro-sites of hill ecosystems.
