RSPT-2, a new high yielding and very early maturing variety of toria (Brassica campestris), was developed through mass selection and evaluated at SKUAST-J Research Farm, Chatha, Jammu during rabi 2003–2007. The results indicated that the variety RSPT-2 performed better and outyielded others including the earlier released variety RSPT-1 and the check, TL-15. It took minimum days to mature in Initial Varietal Trials (67 and 92 days) and Advanced Varietal Trials (89 and 71 days) of AICRP on Rapeseed & Mustard during rabi 2005–06 and 2006–06, respectively. This variety also outyielded the local toria in minikits and demonstration trials laid out by the Department of Agriculture (J&K) and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, R.S. Pura, respectively, during the years 2005–07 and recorded an increase upto 40 per cent over the local grown variety in Jammu province. Agronomical trials suggested that RSPT-2 could be successfully adjusted in rice/maize-toria-wheat cropping system in the Jammu region of J&K.
