Rotavirus and stx positive Escherichia coli in a cattle farm in Rajouri

Abstract

Diarrhoea in bovine neonates is the major problem in the farm animals. The causative agents are involved either alone or in combination. In this study, 45 cases of bovine neonatal calf diahorrea were investigated for bacteriological and virological agents. RNA-PAGE was used to detect the rotavirus which showed 12 (26%) were positive. The Escherichia coli isolates were examined for toxin genes by multiplex PCR which showed 6 isolates carrying the stx gene. Out of thirty-eight E. coli isolates, eight harboured eae and hlyA genes.
