Abstract

A study conducted in ten villages of Reasi Tehsil of Udhampur district of Jammu region revealed that the marginal, small, semi medium and medium farmers constitutes 65.36, 26.28, 5.74 and 2.61 per cent and cultivate 35.32, 33.80, 16.84 and 13.62 per cent of total cultivable area, respectively. The overall land holding size was 0.96 ha. The average annual utilization of draught animal pair was 297.39 h/pair/year being highest for medium farmers (708.9 h/pair/year) followed by semi medium (355.7 h/pair/year), small (302.6 h/pair/year) and marginal farmers (203.3 h/pair/year). The overall average draught animal pair density was 2.94 ha/pair. It was more profitable to hire a pair of draught animals than to own it.
