Abstract

The study was undertaken to assess and utilize the future prospect of surface and ground water in eight administrative blocks of Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal by allocating the land and water effectively for selected crops, so as to maximize the net benefit, production and labour utilization using linear programming (LP) technique. Mynaguri block was considered as the representative block for all the other seven blocks. LP model was developed by using resources availability and crop activities. By solving the crop plan model, the optimal values for net benefit maximization, production maximization and labour maximization were found to be Rs. 317675870/-, 3190034 q, and 8944322 mandays respectively. Judicious management of land, water, labour and other inputs in study area has good potential and may yield quick result in increasing net return.
