Influence of organic and inorganic phosphorus sources on growth and nutrient content of green gram (Vigna radiata l.) in alfisol

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during kharif season of 2004 and 2005 at Crop Research Farm, SKUAST-K, Srinagar to assess the influence of organic and inorganic phosphorus sources on growth and nutrient content of green gram. The results revealed that application of organic manures significantly increased the nodule number plant−1, nodule dry weight plant−1, leaf area index and nutrient content (N, P, K & S) in grain and strow of green gram. Among organic manures, application of FYM (10 t ha−1) proved better over Dal weed (15 t ha−1). Soil inoculation with Bacillus or Pseudomonas recorded significant increase in nodule number plant−1, nodule dry weight plant−1, leaf area index and nutrient content (N, P & S) in grain and straw of green gram. Increasing levels of phosphorus upto 30 kg P2O5 ha−1 significantly increased the nodule dry weight plant−1, LAI and nutrient content (N, P, K & S) in grain and straw of green gram, whereas nodule numher plant−1 increased significantly up to 60 kg P2O5 ha−1 level.
