Abstract

A field experiment was conducted for two years on wheat variety PBW-343 after paddy with twelve treatments to evaluate the energy use and cost of growing wheat crop. The total energy comprised of the direct energy in the form of tillage, sowing, fertilizer and weedicide application, irrigation, harvesting, threshing and indirect energy in terms of seed, fertilizer and chemical. The highest output energy of 116477.25 MJ/ha was obtained with 100% recommended NPK dose through fertilizer (T6) where 50% N was supplied through FYM to rice while as minimum of 47760.40 MJ/ha was obtained when no fertilizer or manure was applied (T1). The maximum grain yield of 32.42 q/ha was also obtained with treatment T6 and minimum of 14.10 q/ha in control treatment T1. The maximum net profit of Rs. 24107.20 was obtained with treatment T6 which was closely followed where 25% less NPK was applied to wheat but had received 100% recommended fertilizer dose out of which 25% N was supplied through FYM.
