Abstract

The study on plant characteristics of cotton varieties RCH-134, Ankur-651 and Manak was carried out to find their suitability for using modern cotton picker. The row to row spacing was 67.5 cm and plant to plant spacing was 90 cm. The data was taken from 25 plants of each variety selected at random in the field. The plant height of cotton varieties RCH-134, Ankur-651 and Manak ranged from 55–122, 62–120 and 52–100 cm respectively. The average plant width along the row and across the row for varieties RCH-134, Ankur-651 and Manak was 68.7 & 69.0 cm, 66.4 & 69.6cm, and 60.6 and 52.3 cm, respectively. Number of monopods for varieties RCH-134, Ankur-651 and Manak ranged from 1–4, 1–4 and 2–4 respectively. Number of sympods for varieties RCH-134, Ankur-651 a.nd Manak was in the range of11-40, 10–25 and 18–40 respectively. Height of lowermost sympoidal branch for varieties RCH-134, Ankur-651 and Manak was 18.1, 18.8 and 19.0 cm respectively. Height of lowermost boll for varieties RCH-134, Ankur-651 and Manak was 17.8, 17.5 and 25.2 cm respectively. Height of uppermost boll for varieties RCH-134, Ankur-651 and Manak was 81.0, 75.6 and 83.5 cm respectively. Sizes of open boll for varities RCH-134, Ankur-651 and Manak were 4.6, 5.5 and 4.7 cm respectively. Total number of bolls per plant for varieties RCH-134, Ankur-651 and Manak was 25, 22 and 19 respectively.
