Abstract

The present study was undertaken to know the socio-economic characteristics of rice and wheat growers and its relationship with their overall adoption level. A list of farmers following rice and wheat rotation in each selected village was preparedand a random sample of two hundred forty farmers was selected. It was found that almost equal per cent of the respondents (46.67%) and (40.00%) belong to middle age and oldage, respectively. 43.34 per cent were educated up to middle school, 52.50 per cent hadan operational land holding up to 2.5 acres, 64.I 6 per cent were average risk bearers, 75.83 per cent of respondents had no social participation during last year and 58.33 per cent had low level of information sources utilization. It was found that there was a positive and significant correlation between education status, farm size, information sources utilization and risk orientation with adoption of recommended rice and wheat cultivation practices.
