Floral studies in gynodioecious (Valeriana jatamansl)

Valeriana jatamansi is gynodioecious with bisexual and female flowered occurring separately although growing sympatrically at the same location. These floral morphotypes can be segregated only during the flowering phase with no marked difference observed during the vegetative phase. Flowers with two types of styles, based on stylar length were observed in bisexual flowers occurring on different plants. All the bisexual flowers on a plant were observed to be either long styled or medium styled corresponding to filament size. Two types of female flowers, based on flower size were observedand interestingly the smaller female flowers were always tinged with pink colourand larger female flowers white coloured.
