Anatomy of the tongue of barking deer

The study was conducted on the tongue of an adult male barking deer. The apex was thin, spatula shaped with rounded margin. The body of the tongue was much massive as compared to tip and root. The dorsal surface of the tongue revealed a distinct median sulcus. The filiform papillae were innumerable in the rostral portion of the dorsum linguae. The fungiform apillae gave a protruding appearance. The vallate papillae were 24 in number. The various morphometric parameter shave been recorded.
